John Hobbs

John Hobbs is the conductor of North Devon and Bude Choral Societies, president of South Devon Choral Society, and is organist at Holy Trinity Church Weare Giffard, near Bideford. John’s early singing career began as a choral singer at Cambridge University, since when he has sung an extensive repertoire of oratorio, lieder and songs with many choral and music societies. 

John has performed a large number of principal baritone roles with the Duchy Opera Company, which he joined in 1987, and is currently the Artistic Adviser of The Intimate Opera Company, with which he sings throughout the year.

Stephen Tyrrell

Stephen Tyrrell, our accompanist, is highly sought after in the area as a pianist, accompanist, and organist. In addition to his work with Bude Choral Society, he also accompanies the Wadebridge Male Voice Choir and Choral Society among several other local community choirs. He also serves as the organist at St Merryn Church, where he directs the choir, and is a prolific composer, especially of choral music.
