A rare chance to sing with one of Britain's most-loved choral composers
Bude Choral Society is thrilled to be bringing Bob Chilcott to Launceston for a full day of singing — and it's a workshop opportunity we didn't want North Cornwall to miss.
If you've sung in a choir at any point over the last thirty years, you've almost certainly sung his music. A former member of the King's Singers and a lifelong chorister, Bob Chilcott has become one of the most widely performed choral composers writing today, with works sung by choirs of every size and ability across the world. He's often described as "a contemporary hero of British choral music" — and much of his gift lies in writing pieces that are a genuine joy to sing, whether you're a seasoned chorister or fairly new to it.
He's also renowned as a workshop leader. Days like this one are exactly what he's known for: warm, encouraging, and full of the kind of music-making that reminds you why you started singing in the first place.
Together we'll explore two contrasting sides of his writing:
A Little Jazz Mass — one of his best-loved works, setting the traditional mass to irresistible jazz rhythms. It's fun, infectious, and hugely satisfying to sing.
Five Passion hymns from his St John Passion — reflective, moving, and beautifully crafted, offering a more contemplative counterpoint to the Mass.
No audition, no pressure — just a wonderful day of singing, ending with an informal concert at 4:00pm to share what we've learned.
Save the date — this is one to tell your singing friends about.
Registration 9:30–10:00am
Workshop seats £26.50
